After multiple years of extensive interior and exterior renovations, the Streamwood Park District is pleased to invite the public to join them for the grand reopening of the Streamwood Community Center, 777 S. Bartlett Rd., Streamwood, this Saturday, May 11.

The day begins with a welcoming ceremony at 10 a.m. featuring a ribbon cutting and flag raising followed by an open house with kids activities and games until 12:30 p.m. There will also be soccer training on the new FieldTurf from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is free.

“We’re so excited to celebrate the rebirth of our beloved Community Center,” said Executive Director Jeff Janda. “The community is going to love what we’ve done with the place.”

The Community Center, which was originally constructed in 1973, was once considered the place to go for indoor community recreational activities in Streamwood. After falling into some disrepair over the decades, the Streamwood Park District began the process of renovating the facility in 2020.

In 2022, progress was made on several aspects of the renovation, including the replacement of the roof, upgrades to the old gymnasium including the installation of new FieldTurf and the installation of environmentally friendly solar panels on the roof of the building.

In late 2023, major renovations to the Community Center were completed including ADA accessible ramps, brand new elevator, second level viewing room and lower-level viewing window allowing patrons to view the field from various vantage points, fresh paint inside and out, new flooring and much more.

Superintendent of Recreation Programming Jake Larson said the renovation of the Community Center has revitalized the facility.

“The turf indoor soccer field provides the community with the opportunity to play soccer year-round,” said Larson.

The Community Center’s gymnasium flooring was removed prior to the new FieldTurf installation in 2022.

He also noted the updated multipurpose rooms are now being used for dance classes, art lessons, community group meetings and birthday parties.

“It is amazing to see the facility full of patrons every night enjoying memorable experiences at the Streamwood Park District,” said Larson.
