Earlier this year, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources awarded the Streamwood Park District a $1,125 grant from the Illinois Park District Habitat Improvement Grant Program to purchase native plants for the new pollinator garden at Vine Park, 1007 Vine Street.

Scouts from Three Fires Council #127 assisted Parks staff with planting 700 plugs in Vine Park’s new pollinator garden last weekend. In addition, they also learned about the importance of native plants, pollinators, and how this project will positively impact the environment. The work performed will go towards the Scouts earning their Environmental badges.

Moving forward, the Scouts will be tasked with overseeing the pollinator garden with assistance from Parks staff when necessary. The Scouts will be trained to identify and eradicate invasive species. They will also help with the creation of interpretative signage that will help educate park users.

Thank you to the Scouts of Three Fires Council #127 for all your hard work.
