The Streamwood Park District is proud to announce it has been awarded $600,000 in Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant funding from the State of Illinois for the renovation of Hoosier Grove Park, 700 W. Irving Park Road.
The renovations are expected to include a renovated gazebo area, inclusive play structure with poured rubber safety surfacing, regrading of soccer fields, expansion of the ballfield with new warning track, reconstruction of the asphalt trails with a trail connection the future Route 59 bridge overpass, new marquee sign and more.
“We are so excited to receive this grant funding from the State of Illinois and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources,” said Executive Director Jeff Janda. “This will now enable our Park District to complete much-needed renovations to one of our community’s largest and most visited parks.”
The Streamwood Park District would like to thank our local legislators, specifically State Senator Christina Castro, State Representative Anna Moeller and State Representative Fred Crespo, for their support of our application in Springfield. Thanks also to our local community partners, stakeholders and residents for providing their input and support on this project.
“I am very grateful for our staff’s hard work and our legislator’s support for this award,” said Streamwood Park District Board President Bill Wright. “This will help make Hoosier Grove Park a premier recreation destination for our residents and the rest of northern Illinois.”
The Hoosier Grove Park renovation project was one of 100 local park projects to receive OSLAD grant funding this year. The announcement was made by Illinois Governor JB Pritzker on Monday, Dec. 16 in Springfield.
“Since I became Governor, it’s been my mission to build stronger, healthier communities across Illinois,” said Governor Pritzker. “Through the OSLAD program, we’re bringing that vision to life by awarding over $55.2 million to local park projects, expanding green spaces and creating new recreational opportunities for all.”
Established by the Illinois General Assembly in 1986, OSLAD is a cost-sharing program between state and local governments that helps communities fund land acquisition and development for parks and outdoor recreation projects. It’s become one of the most popular grant programs in Illinois. Since its establishment, OSLAD has awarded $640 million for park projects throughout Illinois.
