The Streamwood Park District recently replaced the existing metal halide lamps at the ball fields at Dolphin Park, 880 S. Park Blvd., Rahlf’s Woods Park, 1300 S. Park Blvd., and Hoosier Grove Park, 700 W. Irving Park Rd. with more energy efficient LED lighting.
When all the installations are completed, the estimated average yearly energy use for those lights will be 65% lower than current usage numbers. This energy savings will also result in an annual reduction of over 100 metric tons of CO2 or the equivalent of removing 22 cars from the road each year.
These improvements are made possible thanks to a grant from the ComEd Energy Efficiency Program, whose incentives helped reduce the total cost of the energy saving improvements from $168,067 to only $3.11.
Now that’s going green!
