With the hazy conditions and poor air quality continuing due to the Canadian wildfires, the Splash Pad at Sunny Hill Park will be closed on Wednesday, June 28. Air Quality Alerts are in effect for the Chicago area through tonight.

Air quality is expected to be upgraded to “moderate” by tomorrow and a determination will be made at that time about the reopening of the splash pad for Thursday, June 29. Stay tuned to the Park District’s social media pages for the latest updates on the reopening of the splash pad.

The Air Quality Index, as measured by AirNow.gov, as of 8 a.m. Central Time is at 206 AQI, which is considered to be in the “very unhealthy” category for all people, not just those with respiratory ailments.

During this time period of poor air quality, the Park District encourages residents to take steps to reduce your exposure such as avoiding strenuous outdoor activities, keeping outdoor activities short, and consider moving physical activities indoors or rescheduling them.
