In celebration of Presidents Day (Feb. 19), the Streamwood Park District invites the public to explore our unique connection to the 16th President of the United States Abraham Lincoln at an exhibit inside the display case at Park Place Family Recreation Center in partnership with RUSH Physical Therapy, 550 S. Park Blvd.

Through the Streamwood Historical Society, the Park District owns two original documents from Oct. 1864 which are hand signed by President Lincoln. The documents recognize A.C. Wilmanns of Milwaukee, Wisconsin as Consul (similar to diplomat) for the Kingdom of Hanover and the Free City of Frankfort, which were part of the German Confederation. Hanover Township was established in 1850 and was named after the Kingdom of Hanover by German immigrants who moved to this area.

Thank you to former Streamwood Park District board member Naomi Lenoci and Hanover Township for keeping the documents safe over the years and returning them to us to share with the public.
