Remembering Former Commissioner Janiec

The Streamwood Park District mourns the passing of former commissioner Richard Janiec who passed away on October 6, 2026 at the age of 81.

Commissioner Janiec served as a Streamwood Park District Commissioner for 16 years and made a difference within the Streamwood community. Janiec served as President, Vice President and Chair of various park district committees and was a driving force behind the renovation and renaming of Commissioners’ Park, 81 S. Linda Lane.

In addition to serving as commissioner, Janiec also served on the Summer Celebration Committee and was a member of the Streamwood Historical Society and Streamwood Chamber of Commerce.

“Rich was always involved and was such a nice person,” said Park Board President Kim Kaeseberg reflecting on Janiec’s impact on the park district. “He would stop by the park district on staff member birthdays just to wish them a happy birthday.”

In 2023, the gazebo in Commissioners’ Park was renamed the Rich Janiec Gazebo and the plaque marking this recognition still hangs inside the gazebo in his honor.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 17, at Countryside Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1640 S. Green Meadows Blvd., Streamwood from 1-4 p.m. The service time is pending.
