The Streamwood Park District reminds our residents that our Parks crews control pest/disease issues in the landscape, athletic fields, and playgrounds throughout our properties with an Integrated Pest Management approach. This includes utilizing a variety of strategies which may include some of the following:
– Cultural: mulching, sourcing healthy plants, turf, seed, etc.
– Mechanical: mowing, removal, pruning, etc.
– Biological: using beneficial plants or insects to target undesirable insects.
– Preventative: scouting for pests and diseases
– Chemical: used as a last resort. This includes scouting, and timing the application to be most effective, and on-site flags, as a reminder.
This thoughtful approach helps our staff maintain attractive, safe, and enjoyable parks, while recognizing that nature isn’t something we can—or should—control completely. A small amount of weeds or insects is part of a healthy, living environment.
